PAD Program

According to the American Heart Association there are approximately 300,000 sudden cardiac arrests in the U.S. each year.  Chances of survival decrease by 7-10% per minute when care is delayed.  Survival rates as high as 50% have been achieved with PAD/AED programs.  The Fayetteville Fire Department’s Public Access Defibrillation program was begun in 2004 with the donation of four LifePak 500 AED’s from the Fayetteville Fireman’s Association.  The AED’s are available at the Fayetteville Senior Center, the Fayetteville Free Library, the Fayetteville Municipal Building and the Fayetteville Department of Public Works.  Instructors from the department trained the staff at each location in the Heart Saver AED curriculum.  The department maintains each unit and provides refresher training as needed.  The department acts as a resource for other community organizations or agencies wishing to establish their own PAD programs.
